Back in the days of the Berlin’s wall, Kreuzberg has been the last step of West Germany: a special place, a no man’s land where the first turkish community started to live togheter with punks and squatters. A symbol for this time was the graffiti-painted wall along the whole Kreuzberg’s border: one of the most coloured and at the same time lost part of the city. This artistic character survived also after the wall’s fall and a lot of artists have kept painting Berlin & Kreuzberg for the following decades. This studio collects an unique piece of a berlin ́s street scene and wants to give an urban impression of the artistic scene of Kreuzberg. According to this image, the ambient of the entire flat has been designed following the contrast between black and white colours. The kitchen is equipped with a sink, 4 hotplates, hoven, a fridge, cooking utensils. The bathroom has a shower, a hand wash basin, and a toilet. With the very attractive Graefestr. at it’s heart, Graefe-Kiez is full of tiny cafes, plant stores, candy shops, record stores, pizza shops and bars in a cozy, tree-lined area with a feeling very much geared to outdoor living. There is a wide age range, with a retirement home existing within the middle of young families and even younger artists and students. As Graefe-kiez borders Neuköllnand is directly next to the twice-weekly Turkish Market, there is also a highly visible Turkish community...
